January - March 2011 ZFI is holding 12 nationwide workshops to teach participants about Minority Welfare Schemes and using RTI to monitor scheme implementation click here >

The Government of India has launched several schemes for the benefit of India’s minority communities.

These schemes are being implemented by various Ministries of both the Central and State Government.

However, no infrastructure or mechanism for monitoring has been put in place to assess the progress or impact of such schemes on India’s minority communities.

Since October 2009, Zakat Foundation of India has been operating a new division known as ‘Community Monitoring.’

This division monitors the Government’s implementation of  the announced minority benefit schemes.

The ‘Community Monitoring’ Office asks questions to the concerned departments of the Government, making use of Right To Information Act (link).

In June 2009, ZFI met with the Minister of Minority Affairs regarding Government run schemes. Example of some of the questions posed by ZFI to the Minister during this meeting can be seen by clicking here > PDF

A recent CNN-IBN article on one of our projects can be seen by clicking here >
