April 1, 2010 (Bawana, UP): ZFI today handed over a home to the family of late-11 year old Shanno Khan who succumbed to alleged corporal punishment at the hand of her school teacher in April 2009.

After the child's death, ZFI took her family under their wing. It was noted that the parents were daily-wage laborers and lived in a roadside slum.

ZFI has now successfully built a concrete and brick based home for the family to stay in. The event was reported in the Indian Express newspaper.
